Coming soon... to a town near you...

Shepton Mallet – the historic market town which provided the setting for the successful BBC series tracing changes in shopping over the ages – is gearing up to play a starring role in another production... a film about zombies.

The film which will star world famous US actor Corey Feldman – of Lost Boys and Friday the 13th fame – is called The Zombie King.

Hailed as a 'Grindhouse' style feature film the action revolves around "Seven Souls, Seven Steps, Seven Days to Hell."

The makers say they chose Shepton Mallet as a main setting for the production because they felt it was "just right".

They explained that the look of the deserted streets of the town early in the morning and late at night had a lot to do with the choice of the town as a location.

The film promises a blend of comedy, action, and nail biting tension. And it will appeal to horror fans and zombie lovers alike, says Rebecca-Clare Evans, co-producer of the independent film with Jennifer Chippindale, and with Shaun Robert Smith as Director. It is their first film as a company – Northern Girls Productions Ltd.

"We were with a friend who has property in the area and what started off as a simple idea of making a film here turned into something very big.

"We had a look at Shepton Mallet – it has just the beautiful old country feel about it that we were looking for," said Rebecca. Other scenes will be shot around Doulting and in Beacon Hill Wood. One of the scenes involves getting food supplies from a bakery in the town.

And Nick Marsh, who runs Denela's bakery in the town which has been chosen for the scene, says he won't reveal the action – but it's going to be pretty interesting.

Another scene involves three men trying to get out of a deserted town – but finding there has been a zombie outbreak they are guided to safety by kind locals.

There may be an opportunity for locals to be involved as extras.

Rebecca said they will be filming in the town early morning and late at night when no-one is around – as they want the town to look deserted.

And they are keen to not do anything to interfere with everyday life in Shepton.

Corey Feldman will be in the role of Kalfu the God of Malevolence.

In the film, Samuel Peters, once an ordinary man, dabbles within the laws of voodoo to bring his wife back from the grave, he soon encounters the God of malevolence 'Kalfu' (Corey Feldman), where he makes a pact with him to destroy the underworld and bring chaos to earth.

In return he will become 'The Zombie King' and walk the earth for eternity with his belated wife.

Seven days before the rise of the Dark Moon, Samuel Peters (The Zombie King) calls upon Kalfu to raise the dead of the recently departed, where their souls must be held on earth for seven days.

With the ever growing horde of zombies, they begin to completely wipe out a countryside town. Once the Government get wind of what is going on, they set a perimeter around the town area and employ a shoot on sight policy.

Trapped within the town, the locals and unlikely bunch of misfits fight for their lives, and the remaining humans soon realise that they have to unite in order to survive.

Seeking sanctuary in a local church, they discover a bizarre disturbed priest where he gives them the knowledge of The Zombie King.

Can our heroes unravel the clues in time and survive or will The Zombie King and his horde of zombies rise on the night of the dark moon?

Feldman will be joined by a cast of young British acting hopefuls.

And Rebecca said it was hoped a second major Hollywood actor would be confirmed for the film shortly.

“Opportunity knocks for locals to be involved as extras in a zombie movie... at least the film company won't have to provide any make-up”
