Historian to talk on famous stone circle
After a successful programme of monthly talks, Pensford Local History Group now looks forward to its summer walks programme in May and June.
Group chairwoman Therese Tyson, said: "Our first walk will be on Wednesday, May 6, in Stanton Drew, where local historian Colin Budge will talk to us about the stone circle and the church.
"We will meet at the entrance to the circle at 7pm, and the walk will cost £1.50. Guests are invited to join us."
Regarding the last talk of the previous season, Ms Tyson said: "We had a very interesting talk by Dr Kevin Brown, who spoke about the proposals that were developed to re-define and restore the landscape around Stonehenge by diverting roads and creating a new visitor centre.
"The plans were eventually abandoned, despite a successful public inquiry, due to increased costs of construction.
"Dr Brown also spoke about the Stonehenge site in its broader archaeological context and recent finds from and theories about the purpose of the site."
