'Highest grades ever were a stunning achievement'
Norton Hill School, Midsomer Norton, has seen its 252 GCSE students achieve great results.
The highest ever number of students, 92 per cent, have achieved five A*-C grades – up eight per cent on 2012 with 15 per cent more getting five A* – C grades than last year at 65 per cent.
There was also a ten per cent rise year on year to 41 per cent for students achieving the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) with A*-C grades in English, maths, science, a foreign language, and either history or geography.
Head teacher Alun Williams described the fact that 35 per cent of students achieved either an A* or A in maths as "stunning" and said this represented a ten per cent increase in the number who achieved the same grades last year. In the subject 70 per cent of all students achieved at least a C grade.

He said a special mention must go to students who excelled at science with 84 per cent of all students gaining an A*-C.
Mr Williams said: "They performed out of their skin. There is no other way of describing it.
"The science results for the triple science and the double award are just unbelievable and we weren't expecting it.
"Geography has been another major success story, up 22 per cent on last year with 82 per cent of students gaining A*-C.
"In music 61 per cent of students gained an A* or A with 94 per cent of all students getting A*-C in English Literature. The results are a testament to the hard work put in by students and staff."
Marianne Adams, Kate Garner and Sarah Palmers all walked away with eight-and-a-half A* grades. Sarah Palmer, Shyam Sawhney and Thomas Spring achieved 7.5 A* grades each, with Jennifer Crouch gaining seven A* and Alice Davidson, Rhiannon Davis, Harry Jones and Emily Taylor all managing 6ix-and-a-half A* grades amongst their results.
More than 70 per cent of Norton Hill pupils will be joining the Midsomer Norton Sixth Form in a few weeks' time.
