Helping locals understand nuclear plans
THE key areas to be affected by the proposed building of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point are being offered extra support.
The Sedgemoor and West Somerset district councils' aim is to help communities understand EDF's second stage proposals for the new power station.
EDF consulted communities in the spring about its initial proposals for developments of worker accommodation, freight handling and transport routes associated with the site.
Sedgemoor and West Somerset councils helped generate responses to these proposals from a broad range of community stakeholders.
Community support meetings to help communities interpret and discuss EDF's now revised proposals will be organised in July and August by Sedgemoor District Council and West Somerset Council.
These events will take place in community halls of key parishes that will be affected by the proposed building of a new power station. People will be offered the opportunity to discuss how the EDF proposals may affect their respective areas.
Technical specialists working with the councils will be on hand to give advice and listen to people's views.
The community support meetings are open to all to drop in any time between 6pm and 8pm on the following dates.
July 27 – Williton, St Peter's Primary School, Doniford Road, TA4 4SF.
August 3 – Stogursey, the Victory Hall, TA5 1PR.
August 5 – Cannington Village Hall, TA5 2HE.
August 11 – Bridgwater, The Exchange, Committee Room, TA6 4RR.
August 17 – Bridgwater, Sydenham Community Centre, TA6 4QZ.
August 18 – North Petherton Community Hall, TA6 6QA.
August 19 – Otterhampton Village Hall, TA5 2QS.
August 26 – Burnham-on-Sea, the Princess Hall, TA8 1EH.
The consultation period for EDF Energy's second stage proposals will close on Monday, October 4.
