Helen Glover second-best to Polly Swann at British Rowing Championships
Helen Glover came off second best in her battle with regular women’s pair partner Polly Swann at the British Rowing Championships in Nottingham.
The duo – who won all three World Cup rounds and the global title for Great Britain this year – were racing for a composite Minerva Bath, Imperial College and Oxford Brookes University crew and a Leander Club outfit in the women’s four.
Swann’s crew came out on top as Leander took three of the four titles on offer on the opening day of the championships, with former Millfield School student Glover helping her quartet to a strong runners-up finish.
On Sunday, Swann and former Minerva Bath member Vicky Thornley were included in Leander’s winning women’s eight crew.

Glover was part of the GLOM crew that finished second but, in turn, way ahead of the rest of the field.
Thornley and fellow single sculler Jess Leyden pushed World Championship finalists Vicky Meyer Laker and Frances Houghton right to the line in the women’s double scull final.
