Halloween: Make your own false widow spider
FALSE widow spiders have gripped mid-Somerset’s imagination, but some people have been disappointed to find only boring old garden orbs in their garden.
Now you can make your own authentic (well, a bit) false widow and have a genuinely scary – and very topical – Halloween decoration into the bargain.
First, put your tongue in your cheek, then just print off the template here on to a sheet of A4 paper and stick it to a sheet of black A4 card. Cut carefully round the outline to make your false widow body.

Then cut eight thin strips of black card (cut down the long side of an A4 sheet) for the legs, and glue them to the back of the spider’s body.
Now customise your false widow. Add googly eyes, put a photograph of yourself (or someone else) on the face, add some glitter or black fluff or give your spider a manic grin.
Make a small hole in the back of the spider and push some black thread, wool or elastic through so that you dangle it from the ceiling. Or you could stick it to a witchy hat, or pin it on to your shoulder when you dress up for your Halloween party.
And don’t forget to send us a photograph of yourself with your false widow decoration.
Happy Halloween from all at Mid Somerset News & Media.
