Half marathon instead of touring
A RISING musician formerly from Burnham is distraught he must pull out of his big break touring with JLS and The Saturdays – but is taking time to run a half marathon for charity.
The Bridgwater and Burnham Times previously reported Christopher James, 26, was ecstatic to win the chance to support pop group JLS on their UK tour this year, after winning a national competition.
However, Christopher, who lived on Jaycroft Road until he was 10 and whose family live in Burnham, says recording commitments forced the pull but there is talk of touring with another famous boyband.
He said: "I was due to start the JLS tour this month but was pulled by my managers as I was signed to do an album.
"However, we are now looking at joining another boyband on tour later – but we need to keep their name secret as nothing is confirmed."
Instead, the singer-songwriter now has time to focus on training for the 13-mile Bristol Half Marathon on September 5, for the NSPCC. He aims to raise £500 and hopes people will sponsor him at www.justgiving.com /chris-jamessongstar.
Christopher, who now lives in Putney, London, said: "I am looking forward to the race and have found time to run, cycle and train hard in the gym.
"I am working closely with the NSPCC for the foreseeable futures as its a charity I believe strongly in.
"Support from these dedicated people can change lives and give hope to those in need."
Christopher previously told this newspaper: "I'm so excited to perform next to JLS.
"They are fantastic singers and performers, and I have immense respect for them, and what can I say about the Saturdays? Perfection in every way."
Christopher will perform classics as well as previews from his new album, due for release in October, at this year's Bristol Pride on Saturday, August 21.
