The thousands of visitors to the Mid Somerset Show on Sunday were blissfully unaware that while they were enjoying the sun and the action a mystery computer culprit had hacked their way into the show's website.

Instead of blissful scenes of farm animals and rural life plus information about the popular show, the main web page had been taken over by someone purporting to be "Abo-Sho-Shah."

The mystery page bore questions about the site's security, along with some Arabic lettering, a smattering of gibberish, a photo of an Arab sporting a gun and a four letter swear word.

The Mid Somerset Series stumbled across the hacked page while searching for cattle results from the show on Sunday afternoon – and immediately reported the crime to startled show organisers and website manager Roger Yeoman who removed the offending page in seconds.

Computer expert Mike Perry, who is responsible for setting up many organisation and businesses accounts in the area, including the Mid Somerset Agricultural Society's site, said hacking was a nuisance but did happen from time to time.

In May 2008 hot on the heels of being "Rick Roll'd" with a Rick Astley video, Shepton Mallet Town Council's website was "Badgered."

A surprise performance of the Badger Song popped up on the town council site only a week after it had been deluged with photos and songs by the 1980s icon Astley.
