Grading success for Glastonbury and Shepton Taekwondo Clubs, and gold medals for Sam Bulmer
Glastonbury Taekwondo Club’s Sam Bulmer won two gold medals at the Southern Championships in Paignton.
He came through several rounds to comfortably win the men’s club belt heavyweight sparring division and also triumphed in the team competition.
Meanwhile, students from Glastonbury and Shepton Taekwondo Clubs took part in a coloured belt grading in Bridgwater recently.
The 22 students had to show their skills at East Bridgwater Sports Centre in front of master Michael Dew, 8th degree black belt, the vice-chairman of the Taekwondo Association of Great Britain.

The successful students from Glastonbury were Bulmer, Jason Ho and Rebecca Norris (3rd kup blue belt); Ben Hughes and Bethany Norris (4th kup blue belt); Evie Gulliver (5th kup green belt); Sarah Gulliver and Willa Watling (6th kup green belt); Paddy Mortimer (7th kup yellow belt); Michael Corrigan and Drew Walker (8th kup yellow belt); Rachel Blake, Kieron Corrigan, Zachary Fielder, Naomi Gooderson and James White (9th kup white belt).
Gooderson achieved an A grade pass and received the club’s best grading award.
Meanwhile, the successful Shepton students were Aaron and Connor Hood (6th kup green belt); Mark Hood and Zen Quinn (7th kup yellow belt); Imogen Hood (8th kup yellow belt); Sergen Dixon (9th kup white belt).
Connor Hood received the best grading award for Shepton after achieving an A pass.
Both clubs were also represented among 600 hopefuls at a black belt grading at Bristol Taekwondo Academy.
Oliver Hughes, a 14-year-old from the Glastonbury club, secured his 1st degree black belt, having been training since the age of seven.
Four teenagers from the Shepton group also achieved their 1st degree black belt, having been training for more than five years – Ritin Jacob (15), Charlotte Durham (15), Shannon Kibblewhite (13) and Thomas Williams (14).
