Glovers complete double win thanks to Bowditch brace
Yeovil Town completed a spectacular double over lowly Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday to register only their second away win under manager Terry Skiverton.
The Glovers smashed four past the Chairboys at Adams Park, almost repeating their 4-0 Boxing Day success on home soil.

However, Matt Harrold’s second-half equaliser gave the hosts hope, before Yeovil turned on the style to increase the gap between themselves and the Coca-Cola League One relegation zone.
Skiverton celebrates a year in charge at Huish Park in 10 days’ time, and this was the first taste of away success since beating Bristol Rovers in October.
The former defender made four changes to the team that lost last week against Huddersfield Town. Terrell Forbes came in at right-back for Craig Alcock, Nathan Smith replaced Nathan Jones at left-back, while Andy Welsh and Gavin Tomlin returned on the wings instead of Ryan Mason and suspended Jean-Paul Kalala.
And it was Welsh who played a pivotal role in the victory, setting up one goal before atoning for a glaring miss with a second-half strike.
Dean Bowditch banished memories of last weekend’s penalty miss with two goals and Norwich City loanee Owain Tudur Jones opened his Glovers’ scoring account with a 20-yard free-kick. Skiverton hailed the impact of Welsh and Bowditch and said: “We knew the qualities Dean was bringing in.
“When we play him high he can get off people’s shoulders and he has that change of pace. He is always a threat and he is always a handful.
“Andy is a terrific player, he has got great experience and he was unlucky to be out of the team.”
The Glovers started slowly, with Wycombe dominating the opening exchanges without challenging Yeovil keeper Alex McCarthy.
Yeovil’s opening goal came against the run of play after 16 minutes, thanks to the excellence of Sam Williams, Welsh and Bowditch.
Williams’ strong work on the left allowed Welsh to get to the byline. He rolled the ball to Bowditch, who hammered his shot past Wycombe stopper Scott Shearer and into the top right-hand corner.
Buoyed by their strike, the visitors poured forward and should have doubled their advantage on 30 minutes.
As Yeovil broke quickly, Bowditch latched on to a through ball, crossing the ball across the box for Welsh.
However, the former Sunderland man, sliding in, somehow managed to skew the ball over the stand from a matter of yards.
A minute later Wycombe had their best chance of the half, when former Glovers’ loanee Kevin Betsy evaded the Yeovil offside trap and profited from Smith’s hesitance to cross for Harrold.
The ex-Yeovil striker could not convert a low shot, with Steven Caulker doing well to put in a tackle.
However, Harrold hit the net five minutes after the half-time interval, making the most of time and space in the box.
The imposing frontman rose almost unchallenged to meet debutant Dean Keates’ free-kick to loop a header over McCarthy.
With the exuberant and constantly noisy Yeovil travelling support fearing another away day disappointment, their team responded immediately through Welsh.
Bowditch’s shot was deflected to the Scot, who took a touch at the back post before completing the easy task of tucking the ball into the net from three yards.
A minute before the hour mark Tudur Jones put the result beyond doubt, converting a free-kick he had earned.
The Welshman sprinted into the final third, only to be stopped in his tracks by a cynical challenge from one-time Yeovil defender and substitute Luke Oliver.
After dusting himself off, Tudur Jones beat Shearer at his near post with a low effort that scuttled around the Wycombe defensive wall.
With 65 minutes played, the rout was completed, allowing Yeovil to enjoy the rest of the game in complete control.
Williams released Bowditch, who burst into the box before allowing Oliver to get goal-side of him. The defender’s torrid introduction continued as Bowditch knocked the ball past him before poking into the net. To Wycombe’s credit, they continued to press in search of a goal that would give them a glimmer of hope, but they could not find a way past McCarthy.
