Yeovil Town are expected to move for a striker when clubs are permitted to sign emergency loanees again next week.

The Glovers failed to add to their squad before the transfer window shut on Tuesday and are now without forward Sam Williams for three games.

The target man was sent off for a head-butt during the Johnstone's Paint Trophy first round defeat to Exeter City at Huish Park on Tuesday night.

Manager Terry Skiverton conceded earlier in the season that he required back-up for Williams, and now he is without a physical presence to spearhead his attack.

The boss said he missed out on a target on deadline day and added that although he is looking for a striker, he may not go for a direct replacement for the former Aston Villa trainee when the loan window reopens next Tuesday.

Skiverton said: "I want a person who can play in forward role, not necessarily a target man but a forward-type player.

"I think we seemed to cope very well when we had (Bristol City attacker) Gavin Williams last year.

"But we do not have him now and there are other people who are going to have to step up to the plate in those roles.

"It is a chance for a couple of people that have gone out of the squad to stake a claim to come back into it.

"I thought Dean Bowditch played up front on his own very well (against Exeter) and caused problems with his hold-up play and movement. We might even look at that."

Gavin Williams returned to Huish Park at the end of last season, partnering Bowditch in attack. Skiverton admitted the Glovers made a move to bring the Welshman back again, but were rebuffed.

"We enquired about him earlier in the season but there was no more dialogue about that and we are looking in other areas," he said.
