MEMBERS of a Yeovil glass supplier have gone more than a few steps beyond the call of duty by signing up to the GO Yeovil! pedometer challenge.

Not only has every worker at Yeovil Glass and Window Centre pledged to take part in the week-long green lifestyle challenge, but every manager from the company’s entire South West branch network, head office and members of the board of directors will also be doing their bit.

Equipped with a pedometer employees at the Lynx Trading Estate-based company will be recording their steps for one week in June, with every step going towards building Yeovil’s big green footprint.

As an extra incentive, the employee who records the highest number of steps will win a portable TV with built-in DVD player, while the person with the lowest number will get a wooden spoon.

The pedometer challenge is one of a series of activities which will be taking place from Sunday, June 13, to Saturday, June 19, for GO Yeovil! week. Sponsored by AgustaWestland, the initiative is aimed at getting every member of the community up and active.

Company boss Mark Mitchell said: “As a company we are delighted to support many local community-based projects and initiatives. As responsible employers the positive GO Yeovil! style message of a healthy active lifestyle is something we encourage for our staff of 150 colleagues throughout the South West.

“We hope the internal competition could be fierce as within our teams we have mountaineers and marathon runners who could set a high standard for our internal competition, but our accumulated total may offer some positive rivalry from other involved businesses considering rising to the challenge.

“From our most westerly site in Penzance to our easterly branch in Warminster, we hope to offer the GO Yeovil! initiative the group’s full support and will to continue to promote GO Yeovil! to suppliers and customers alike in the run up to June.”

To take part and make every step you take count, all you need to do is pledge £3 and sign up to the pedometer challenge. For more on GOYeovil! go to their newly launched website www.goyeovil.co.uk.
