Georgia Googan tributes: Shock death of pupil who was 'always smiling'
Hundreds of people have paid their respects to a young schoolgirl who died suddenly at the weekend.
Georgia Googan, 11, of Stoke-sub-Hamdon, passed away on Sunday – weeks after she started at Stanchester Academy.
Paramedics and police were called to the girl’s house at around 7.30pm. She was taken to Yeovil District Hospital but “did not survive”, a spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said. Her death is not thought to be suspicious.
The former Castle Primary School pupil transferred to secondary school in September. Staff at her former school said she was a member of the netball team. They said she was “always smiling”.

Adrian Halford, head teacher of Castle Primary, said: “Georgia was a pupil at Castle Primary School for her final primary school year. During her time with us she quickly established friendships with her peers and was a bubbly and popular member of the class and school. She became fully immersed in all aspects of school life, attending after-school clubs and playing for the netball team.
“She was always smiling and enjoyed life at school to the full. Our thoughts are with Georgia’s family at this sad time.”
A Facebook group called ‘RIP Georgie Googan we will never forget you’ had attracted more than 480 members as the Western Gazette went to press.
Tributes were also paid to the schoolgirl on social networking site Twitter.
Staff at Stanchester Academy said she will be “sadly missed”.
Judy McBlain, head teacher of the Stoke-sub-Hamdon school, said: “We heard today of the sad news of the passing away of Georgie Googan, 11 years old, from Stoke-sub-Hamdon. Georgie joined us in September after transferring from Castle Primary School. She had made a positive start at the school, enjoying lessons and making new friends. She will be sadly missed by the staff and students in our community.”
A police spokesman said: “We were called shortly after 7.30pm by the ambulance who were concerned about a patient they were treating in Stoke-sub-Hamdon. The patient, a girl aged 11 years, was taken to Yeovil District Hospital but did not survive.
“Her death is not believed to be suspicious and the coroner has been informed.”
A spokesman for East Somerset Coroner’s office confirmed the coroner was investigating the death of an 11-year-old girl.
