Gary Johnson’s bid to strengthen his Yeovil Town squad will continue after the transfer window closes.

The Glovers host Preston in npower League One tomorrow following a quiet week in terms of player movement.

After signing four new faces and allowing three to return to parent clubs in his first two weeks in charge, Johnson has added nobody since bringing in Kelly Youga last Friday.

However, boss Johnson said he and his management team had cast their eyes over an “unbelievable” number of trialists as they bid to stave off relegation.

Johnson said: “They have been coming and going unbelievable in the last week because we have got to look at their ability and also their dressing room personality.

“A couple have come in that do not speak English and they did not last but they understood ‘see you later’.

“We have got two or three out of it but we will still be looking because when the transfer window closes we can still bring in a loan. If there is a chance for a loan to go back with a loan coming in, we have got to do that.

“We are discussing it every day and have got phone calls, texts and emails every day from agents and players saying ‘will you look at me?’ Just in case there is the next Wayne Rooney out there we have got to follow it up.

“We try and keep all of the lads informed that are not going to be involved in the squad and of course to bring in we have got to move out.

“But we cannot keep moving out and not have enough players for the rest of the season. We have got to time it.”

Johnson welcomed technical coach Darren Way back to Huish Park this week, as the former midfielder returned after illness.

“It is great to have him back because as we have been telling people there has been no problem other than he has not been well,” said Johnson.

“He is back, larger than life. To have the little Rottweiler back is a good thing because he is Yeovil Town through and through, just like the others.”
