Gary Johnson wants to be a father figure to his Yeovil Town squad, warning players who treat him as a friend or enemy that their club futures will be short.
The Glovers’ manager addressed his team on Thursday morning as they discussed the fallout from Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

“Don’t treat me like a friend as I’m not your mate either and I’ll have to drop you, leave you out or send you to pastures new. But I don’t mind being like a dad. Sometimes your dad will praise you, he wants you to do well and I want them to do well but sometimes a dad has to smack them and make sure they grow up right.
“That’s what I’ve had to do. On occasions I don’t apologise for picking out certain times in the game when I thought we were lax and I thought we were lax for the last 20 minutes.
“I thought for 70 minutes our football club looked magnificent. I wanted to keep that tempo going throughout the game but we didn’t.
“We will learn from that and hopefully their dad gave them a smack now and it just needs reminding them of the meeting and reminding them that I am never happy unless we play out the game playing our game.”
Captain Jamie McAllister has a “60-40” chance in favour of being fit for the weekend after hobbling off against West Brom. However, attacker Gavin Williams (calf) will definitely miss the Doncaster clash with Johnson considering further tests to get to the bottom of the problem.
“It’s still as annoying,” he said. “It will come to a stage where we have got to get further investigations. It is a niggling injury and one that’s sticking around a little bit.
“It won’t be long now (before investigations) because we need him fit now and we have only got a small squad and we have got to keep an eye on our numbers. We need to know soon.”
