Gary Johnson: Lively Paddy Madden will be big asset for Yeovil Town
New Yeovil Town signing Paddy Madden will remind fans of Huish Park hero Adam Stansfield according to manager Gary Johnson.
The Carlisle United forward agreed a month’s loan with the Glovers yesterday after first impressing Johnson and assistant Terry Skiverton at a game last season before scoring against Yeovil days later.
The Glovers hope the Irishman, who has been dogged with injury since signing for the Cumbrians in January 2011, will add a similar dimension to the side that the late Stansfield brought when he fired Yeovil to FA Trophy glory. Johnson said: “I remember watching him the week before we played them last year. It was down at Brentford and he played really well and we were hoping he wasn’t going to play against us, but he did.
“He looked very lively and we had earmarked him as, God bless him, an Adam Stansfield type. The minute we felt we needed that type in our squad and he became available came together and we thought we better get this done.

“He was very keen to come down and show what he can do so I picked him up myself at Bristol Airport at 8am and brought him in. He has had a good training session, he looks fit and he will certainly be involved on Saturday in the squad. He has infectious running and we feel the squad needs that because that is probably the one thing we haven’t got.”
Madden’s arrival came as Gozie Ugwu returned to Reading for treatment on a hamstring injury that is likely to leave him sidelined for three to four weeks.
Lewis Young is also likely to miss a month after damaging ligaments and bruising bone in his right ankle during an awkward slide against Porsmouth on Tuesday.
Defender Byron Webster is suspended for the weekend visit of Colchester United and Johnson remains frustrated by Gavin Williams’ calf problem.
“The injury that he has got is an injury that is persistent,” said Johnson. “He’s gutted because he obviously wants to play but he can’t train and play at this moment and if he you can’t train you can’t play because he won’t be fit enough.”
