Gary Johnson: Bumper home crowds can help Yeovil Town strengthen position
Bumper Huish Park crowds can help Yeovil Town consolidate their place at the top of npower League One according to their manager.
The Glovers enter back-to-back home league clashes with Doncaster Rovers today and AFC Bournemouth next Saturday having climbed to the highest position in the club’s 117-year history.
Unbeaten in three outings, Gary Johnson’s men trounced Scunthorpe United 4-0 to reach the summit and the boss said his team had done all they can to improve home gates.
“We are better doing it (going top) after 45 games but it is much better being up there and not being the chasers,” he said.

“We do not want to have another season where we are chasing. It is only three games, we know, but it is up to other teams to now chase us and really we want to get our support back.
“They need to see we are giving it a right go and that is what we are doing. The lads deserve to get that support.
“We have got two home games now and we can really strengthen our position at the top of the league if we get that support. The lads cannot do any more anyway and if that doesn’t entice people in I do not know what we can do.”
Johnson added his “pride” for his side’s approach and said they were “reaping the rewards” of a productive pre-season.
He said: “Every single one of them played their part against Scunthorpe and we can only be proud of our football.
“They have all been good goals that we have scored and there have not been too many flukey ones. When we get it going – and we are getting it going quite often – we are getting in and looking a good football team for this level.
“The lads are buzzing and I am just so pleased for them. We had a big pre-season. I know a lot of people saw us having fun with the white water rafting but the lads have had some hard work and they are reaping the rewards from the pre-season and the early season.”
