Gary Anderson ready for Robert Thornton clash in McCoy's Premier League Darts

Gary Anderson is confident his finishing woes can be consigned to history as he prepares to face Scottish foe Robert Thornton at the McCoy's Premier League Darts tonight.

The World Cup partners go up against each other for the first time in the competition at Exeter's Westpoint Arena, with Burnham-based Anderson aiming to banish memories of last week.

Seven days ago Anderson - ranked 11th globally by the Professional Darts Corporation - battled back from 5-2 down to level 5-5 against Andy Hamilton in Bournemouth.

However, with The Hammer nailing the next leg 2009 champion Anderson missed three attempts at double 16 to seal a point, falling 7-5.

Ahead of his trip to Devon where he will be cheered on by fellow Somerset player Justin Pipe, Anderson said: "It will click, it will come good.

"It was the same last year but last year I wasn't practicing at all, I didn't care about the darts and the boys were just beating me.

"That was playing against someone that didn't practice and got their darts out just once a week.

"I'm putting the work in now and that's what's doing my nut in. It's going well in practice, it's going well anywhere. Whether I play at my mates, at the pub or at mine it's going great. Its just up there on the stage."

Anderson said friendships would be put to one side when he takes to the oche with 2012 UK Open winner Thornton.

"I only live a few miles away so it's a nice short journey for me for a change and hopefully I'll have plenty of local support," Anderson.

"It's exciting to play Robert because he's doing alright so far, it's his first year in the Premier League and he's enjoying it.

"We played together in the World Cup last month but we'll be beating each other up on stage in Exeter."

Thornton added: "It's absolutely brilliant for Scottish darts. There are not too many Scottish players in the PDC and hopefully watching this will make others join and hopefully we can have a few more.

"Since we joined the PDC, Gary and I have had some humdingers of matches. We wind each other up and spur each other on and it's a bit of friendly banter. We know at the end of the night we'll be mates and it's all good fun."

Anderson tackles Thornton in the first game of the night before Hamilton plays Michael van Gerwen, James Wade takes on Phil Taylor, Wez Newton faces Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld ends the night against Simon Whitlock.
