Gary Anderson felt the full force of five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld as his 2013 Ladbrokes World Darts Championship quest came to an end last night.

Anderson was beaten in straight sets by the Dutch legend in a match that had all the makings of an Alexandra Palace classic.

But Barney's emphatic 4-0 win sent him cruising into the quarter-finals and a clash with Simon Whitlock tonight.

For Scotsman Anderson, who lives in Burnham-on-Sea, it was another night of doubles frustration as he missed 23 leg-winning darts.

The 2011 runner-up and former Premier League champion lost the first set in less than eight minutes, and the whole game was over in little more than half an hour.

"The key to my win was taking the first set, which gave me huge confidence," said van Barneveld.

"After that first set, Gary's level seemed to drop and he didn’t produce the high scoring that saw him hit 19 180s against John Bowles."

Barney will now play Whitlock in tonight's first quarter-final, which is due to start at 7.15pm.

"I'm looking forward to playing Simon," said van Barneveld. "He's a world class player and has few weaknesses, and he beat me in semi-finals three years ago, so I know I have a tough game on my hands.

"I believe that I can win the World Championship once again. With the confidence I currently have, I can beat anyone, and I'm playing well and enjoying myself."
