Frome's third annual potato day and seed swap takes place at the Cheese and Grain on Sunday, February 26, from 10am to 2pm.

Sustainable Frome, with Vallis Veg, is presenting the event which gives gardeners the chance to exchange vegetable and flower seeds and to buy potato varieties from specialists at Pennard Plants. There will also be variety of other garden and green-themed stalls.

Seed saving is the first step towards breeding local plant varieties. In the past, home gardeners routinely saved seeds and developed their own varieties of vegetables. It is hoped that the potato day and seed swap will encourage gardeners to save seeds and help to start developing local plant varieties again.

For more information call Cordelia Rowlatt on 01373 462842 or email cordelia_chris@hotmail. com.

Entry to the seed swap costs £1.
