Frome Drama Club’s new chairman Geoff Hunt announced
At Frome Drama Club's recent AGM there was a good turnout to mark the ending of an era.
Gillie Richardson has decided to step down from the role of chair of the club.
She has held the post for the last 12 years and in that time has guided the club through good times and tricky ones, and established it as the premier drama club in the town with a reputation for excellent performances to a high standard.
Gillie has not only been the chair, acting as first point of contact, leading the committee meetings, and generally promoting the club, but has also for many years been the wardrobe mistress.

She has sourced costumes from as near as Codford and as far away as China and has worked behind the scenes at every performance.
At the annual meeting a presentation of pictures of Gillie in many guises (some embarrassing) was displayed and Lesley Swinburn, who had herself been chair in the past, paid tribute to Gillie's tact and diplomacy, her hard work, and commitment to the club.
She was then presented with a gift of Theatre vouchers and a falconry experience and a bouquet of beautiful flowers.
The one thing Gillie is not giving up is acting for the club.
She has been in many productions – most recently Noises Off, Streetcar named Desire, Habeas Corpus, Dorian Gray and The Revenger's Comedies – and is currently in rehearsal for the spring production of The Farndale Housing Association Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society Murder Mystery.
This hilarious comedy is being directed by well known Frome Drama Club director Geoff Hunt who will also be the club's new chair.
"I was overwhelmed by all the kind words and gifts so a few tears were shed", said Gillie.
"While I have felt very sad about stepping down, I know it is time for a change and I am delighted that Geoff will be taking over with all the dramatic energy and enthusiasm he brings".
Geoff added: "Gillie has taken the club from strength to strength and I would like to thank her for all her hard work and dedication.
"She will be a hard act to follow!"
The Farndale Housing Association Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society Murder Mystery will be at The Merlin Theatre, Frome in April.
