Frome Christmas extravaganza event will be scaled down
THE FROME Christmas extravaganza will be a scaled down event this year after the company that was due to organise it backed out.
Sunrise Festival had been lined up to organise the annual town Christmas event but the town council received a letter last week to say it could no longer be involved.
At the town council's internal affairs committee meeting, town clerk Paul Wynne said it was disappointing but felt that a smaller, more intimate event would work just as well, if not better than what was originally planned.
He said FromeFM were very keen to be involved this year, along with Frome Area Christians Together (FACT) and he also said the Westway Precinct, charity Positive Action on Cancer and the Cheese and Grain wanted to be included in plans.

He told the committee he was looking at the situation quite positively.
He said: "We think there is definitely a project that can be taken forward from this rather sorry situation.
"There is the idea to stage a slightly smaller event that does not involve closing the town centre.
"It may be closed from 5pm until 7pm for the light switching on from The George Hotel, carol singing and street entertainment.
"We are looking at it as an opportunity rather than a disaster."
Mr Wynne said that feedback from last year's event had noted that the stage in the town centre was the least popular element and discussions were ongoing about its organisation.
The committee was also told retailers and businesses in the town were keen to help in anyway they could.
Anyone who would like to be involved in this year's event is asked to contact Frome Town Council town centre manager Karen Clements on 01373 465757.
