Flooding 'summit' set to discuss crisis in Somerset
A Westcountry “flood summit” has been announced after an MP claimed that the Environment Agency was “negligent” in its failure to prevent a “catastrophe” in the region.
Three waves of flooding saw many businesses in Somerset waterlogged three times last year with farmland under water for months.

Tory MP Ian Liddell-Grainger said the agency should have done more and has called for it to pay for dredging along the Tone and Parrett rivers.
Next week local authorities, agencies and services will gather for the summit at the County Ground in Taunton, where Somerset play cricket.

The countywide meeting will look at the impact, aftermath and future planning.
MPs plan to attend, including Jeremy Browne, Tessa Munt and Ian Liddell-Grainger.
Last week Mr Liddell-Grainger said of flooding: “The problem can be solved even though it has been ignored – the name of the game at this stage is negligence.”
National Farmers’ Union regional spokesman Ian Johnson said it was time to match rhetoric with action.
The event will take place on Friday, March 15, and will run from 10am to 4pm, with MPs on hand from 11am to 12.30pm.
