"Rain is forecast to ease during Tuesday afternoon although river levels are expected to remain high."

A flood warning is the second most severe flood status the Environment Agency can issue, telling residents that flooding is expected and immediate action required.

A lesser flood alert was also issued along the upper reaches of the Rivers Parrett and Isle in South Somerset this morning.

The Agency said around 23mm of rain has fallen in the past 12 hours, and that another 25mm is expected to fall between midday today and 6am tomorrow morning.

"River levels on the River Isle at Donyatt, River Isle at Ashford Mill, River Parrett at Chiselborough and River Parrett at Gawbridge are all rising steadily," a spokesman said.

One road south of Crewkerne was closed due to flooding this afternoon.

The B3165 Clapton Road was closed in both directions at the Wayford Hill junction.
