Firefighters rescued a horse from a ditch in Somerset at the weekend – the fourth rescue of its kind by Devon and Somerset firefighters in a month.

The horse was on its side in a foot of water.

Firefighters from Bridgwater and Nether Stowey, aided by a tender from Taunton, rescued the animal from a ditch at Perry Green, Wembdon.

The fire and rescue service has appealed to horse owners and land owners to ensure that ditches on land where livestock is kept are safely fenced.
