The Frome mother was eight months pregnant with her third child Rose and she and the two boys were walking to school one morning last year. Mrs Fray suddenly passed out and let go of the buggy Jacob was sat in.
Finlay quickly grabbed the buggy stopping it rolling into the middle of a busy road. He then stepped out holding up his hand to stop a van that was driving past.
The driver called an ambulance and Finlay was then able to tell people who came to their aid where his father Andy, who works as a dairy engineer for TH White, was and he was alerted.
Not only that, Finlay remembered where a trusted neighbour lives so that he and his brother could go there until his father arrived to get them.
Mrs Fray was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath and was discharged the same day.
Baby Rose was born by caesarian section a few weeks later and is now nine months old.
Finlay's mother described her brave son as a "bit of a joker who would do anything for anybody".
She said: "He is a very sensible boy who likes to look after his little brother and sister. We are very proud of him."
A second Frome winner is 11-year-old Izzy Book who has raised hundreds of pounds for charity. Izzy's photograph will be appearing in next week's Somerset Standard.
Twenty six young people were honoured at a ceremony held at Taunton Conference Centre at Somerset College. Winners were presented with their certificates by six-time Paralympic medallist Deb Criddle and got the chance to try on the gold and two silver medals she earned at London 2012.
