Fingerpicking and slide guitar wizard makes a welcome return visit
Steve James has won over audiences on both sides of the Atlantic with his virtuoso finger-picking and slide guitar-playing – not to mention his exuberant stage persona. So it's no surprise that he is being welcomed back with open arms to play an intimate show at Plymouth's B-Bar next week.
A bit of an underground hero – well known among devotees of American folk and blues, having played alongside such luminaries as John Hammond, Bo Diddley and Buddy Guy, his recording credits include slots with James McMurtry and Maria Muldaur.
His original songs have been variously covered by a range of artists from new folk phenomenon Ana Egge to folk blues godfather Dave Van Ronk. Steve has toured far and wide, playing at festivals and clubs throughout the US, Canada and Europe. He also runs workshops for aspiring guitarists. His playing, singing and song-craft have spawned several solo albums on which he's been joined by musical cohorts like Bad Livers, Bob Brozman, Cindy Cashdollar, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Ann Rabson, and duet partner Del Rey.
Steve James is at the B-Bar on Thursday, September 12.
