Finding comedy talent on the Cornish doorstep
What would a Cornish festival be without some home-grown Cornish talent? Stepping up to the mic on September 18 in the St Ives Theatre is funny man Johnny Cowling, who has been delighting audiences for over ten years with his Cornish charm, quick wit, vocal talent and humour. His topics include the ever-changing face of Cornwall, ladies' appliances, Cornish family life, holiday-makers and much, much more. Who has Johnny Cowling been compared to? Well, mix a pinch of Jethro, a dab of Michael Barrymore, a spoonful of Tommy Cooper and a hunk of Elvis and standing before you would be a 6ft 1in Cornishman – Johnny Cowling.
Singer with a clear and seductively beautiful voice
Bristol born – and, since last year, Cornwall-based – Martha Tilston is a captivating performer, an enchanting singer-songwriter blessed with a gloriously clear and seductively beautiful voice. Weaving her magic spell over listeners wherever she plays – from the concert hall to the campfire, from folk clubs to main festival stages – she is a rare gem who has the power to draw an audience into her world, leaving all those present with a smile, a warm feeling inside, and a few issues to ponder, too. She's one of the later acts at St Ives, playing the Western Hotel on September 27.
