Fifty Shades of Grey inspires mum's Seven Dirty Words raunchy romance book deal
A raunchy romance has helped a Martock mum realise her dream of having a novel published.
Mother-of-two, Charlotte Howard, 30, was inspired to write her own Seven Dirty Words after reading the best-selling Fifty Shades Of Grey.
She wrote her novel in just 21 days and was delighted when an American publisher accepted it.
Mrs Howard said: “I read Fifty Shades Of Grey last year and wondered whether I would be able to write a romance novel – and I did.

“It is in between contemporary romance and erotic. The publishers said it was not erotic enough to be classed as erotic but it is quite raunchy.
“It is not BDSM like Fifty Shades but that did inspire me.
“I find writing romance quite easy. It is a bit of real life and a bit of fantasy.”
The title of the book comes from the words which were banned from TV and radio in the 70s.
Mrs Howard said the book is quite tragic as the main character, 26-year-old Paige Holmes, is struggling to get over a traumatic experience when she finds herself torn between two men, Matt Jackson and Vance Ellery.
She must choose between the one who appears to be the most perfect, or the one who makes her use all Seven Dirty Words.
Mrs Howard said: “I call upon the experiences of my youth of being in love with the person who no one approves of.
“It is like the choice between wearing stilettos or slippers.
“We have fun in stilettos but I think most women would like to come home to a nice pair of slippers.
“I am married with kids and my husband is the safe option. I do call him ‘my slippers’.”
Born in Oman, Mrs Howard moved to the UK in 1989, settling in Somerset in 2008.
She lives with her husband, two children, and a growing menagerie of pets, and works as a makeup artist and a freelance writer.
The book launched in America earlier in the month and as she lives so far away Mrs Howard had to make her appearance via video link.
She said: “It was really nice to meet people who were actually buying the book. It was midnight here but 6pm over there by the time I logged off.”
A keen writer from an early age, Mrs Howard had her first poem published when she was just 14. After taking a break from writing she took it back up while recovering from a difficult pregnancy.
She mainly wrote crime fiction novels which were rejected by publishers, and even tried self-publishing before she hit on contemporary romance.
She said the reality of finally achieving her dream has not quite sunk in yet.
She said: “It is something I have wanted for so long and I never thought I would get here. I have not quite given up on crime and I will revisit it but at the moment I am trying to write a sequel to Seven Dirty Words.”
Copies of the book can be purchased through Amazon and Rocking Horse Publishing is currently trying to get the book into UK bookstores.
