Field for the British Isles at Barrington Court inspires new works of art
One of the art events of the year in the West Country has inspired visitors who saw it to create their own works of art – and they have gone on show in the same National Trust venue.
Earlier this year, renowned sculptor Antony Gormley brought his Field for the British Isles work – some 40,000 small clay figures – to fill three rooms at Barrington Court, the National Trust property, near Ilminster, in South Somerset.

While the work was in place, visitors were invited to make their own figures, and now 1,500 of them are going on show, creating their own version – which organisers have dubbed ‘a Field for Somerset’, now in Barrington’s bustalls, the old veal calf barn.
