Festive fun for Cheddar Kingfishers
Cheddar Kingfishers Swimming Club held a festive fun night last week, with members treated to a special visit from one of Santa's elves – although it was later revealed to be coach Oli Tratt.
More than 40 youngsters aged between seven and 17, were grouped into five mixed age and ability teams for a series of challenges.
After an exhausting hour of non-stop fun in the pool, the teams were grateful for the party food on offer once they had dried off.
"I am so, so glad I joined the club – it's loads of fun," said one young swimmer. "I've made new friends and the coaches are brilliant.

"The best race was the one where we had to make a train and swim holding onto each other. I also liked the relay where we took turns swimming wearing a T-shirt.
"Swapping the T-shirt to the next swimmer when it was wet was really hard and it felt horrible."
Cheddar Kingfishers swim up to three times a week at Kings Fitness and Leisure, perfecting members' technique and working on speed and stamina.
Swimmers are divided into bronze, silver and gold squads, split by ability rather than age, so each swimmer trains with others at a similar level.
Many of the older members take part in the Cotswold League series of galas and are looking forward to next season's first event in the new year.
Promising swimmers from Level 7 and above of the Kings Swim scheme are individually invited to join the club by their swimming instructor but Kingfishers are keen to recruit older swimmers, eligible for the 15-and-under and open categories.
Anyone interested in joining Kingfishers is welcome to see what the club has to offer. Contact club secretary Sharon Allcott via sharonallcott132@ btinternet.com or 01934 742107 to arrange a trial swim.
