He also represented England and Great Britain in a hockey career spanning more than ten years, winning Olympic gold at the 1988 Seoul Games.

Millfield headmaster Craig Considine said: "We are delighted to be welcoming David to Millfield. He brings with him a considerable wealth of experience in athlete development and coaching management, and has a proven track record of strong leadership in sporting programmes."

"David shows a clear desire to integrate his expertise of high performance sport with a school sport programme that caters for young people of all ability."

Faulkner added: "I am delighted to join Millfield at such an exciting time for sport, in particular for school sport, in Great Britain following the London Olympic Games.

"I'm looking forward to working with the Millfield coaching team to ensure pupil potential is realised across every sport, and to guarantee a positive experience for all."
