Fast and furious racing with sit-on lawn mowers
MORE than 40 racers will be competing in a grand-prix style race this weekend to be crowned British Champion – of mower racing.
Lawn Mower Racing consists of eight prize races that will take place on Sunday and Monday afternoon.
Three different classes of souped up sit-on mowers reaching speeds of up to 40mph will compete for the title.
Entry to the event costs £4 for each day for anyone over five or £7 for a full weekend ticket.
Young people, up to the age of 18 and tall enough to reach the peddles, can try their skills on the special Mud Buggies track.
There will also be activities for children, a dog agility event and a wide selection of food stalls.
There will be a beer festival ongoing from Saturday until 6pm on Monday with bands on Saturday and Sunday evening.
Rotary Club President, Mike Gelder, said: "We really hope people living in and visiting Somerset will enjoy an entertaining and relatively low cost time at the Mower Racing and Beer Festival.
The big plus being that the proceeds will help local charities such as the West of England MS Therapy Centre which serves all of Somerset; Heads Up based in Wells; Mend the Gap based in Langford, and also the Rotary Foundation."
All proceeds raised will go to charities.
It will take place just off the A38 near Cross where signposts can be followed.
