Farmers warn of bacon and sausage shortage

A looming bacon and sausage shortage is on the horizon unless supermarkets pay farmers more, it is claimed.

The soaring price of animal feed has led to a mass cull by farmers who can no longer afford to feed their animals, according to the National Pig Association.

Droughts in North America and Russia have caused a global failure in the grain crop used for animal feed, pushing up the price.

The NPA predicts Britain’s breeding stock will shrink by eight per cent by Christmas.
