A farmer has decided to close a path through a popular area of woodland near Yeovil after the disappearance of six of his elk.

Paul Richards, 56, of Woodentop Farm in West Coker, near Yeovil in Somerset, made the decision after vandals cut through a boundary fence to a field containing the animals last week.

One elk was later recovered. Police are treating the incident as theft although Mr Richards says the elk could be roaming in the surrounding countryside.
