Five Axbridge First School youngsters completed the Burnham Splash & Dash this month.

The junior aquathlon event saw competitors tackle a 50m swim in the town's swimming pool before running 500m on the beach.

Axbridge's Sophie Warren, Ellen Campbell, Megan McClumpha, Ciara Ambrosius and Ellie Chesterfield all took part in the under-8 section.

Warren set the early pace for the school, finishing the swim in 53 seconds, while Campbell clocked 1min 3secs despite having to swim twice due to a problem with her goggles.

McClumpha was third in 1:15, while Ambrosius (1:19) and Chesterfield (1:20) both impressed on their debut in the event.

McClumpha was the top runner when the competitors reached the beach, finishing the 500m in 2:23. That was two seconds quicker than Warren, who eventually emerged as Axbridge's top finisher in seventh place, with Campbell 11th, McClumpha 12th, Chesterfield 19th and Ambrosius 21st.

The girls would like to thank Martin and the other organisers and volunteers for helping to run the event.
