Wells Cathedral School's Symphony Orchestra will be performing a programme of symphonic favourites, including Paul Dukas' Sorcerer's Apprentice, on the evening of Friday, February 10.

Among the musicians performing at Wells Cathedral will be French horn player, Elizabeth Tocknell, one of the brass finalists at this year's BBC Young Musician 2012 competition.

She has recently been awarded top scholarships at three of the country's leading music colleges to continue with her musical studies in September.

Elizabeth, who will be touring Hong Kong in the school's senior wind quintet at Easter, has also been put forward for the Associated Board Scholarship and will be performing as principal horn with the orchestra in the Symphonic Journey.

The concert will be conducted by Wells Conductor in Residence, Christopher Adey.

Christopher's extensive repertoire of more than 1,500 performed works covers symphonic, chamber orchestra, choral and opera works of all periods.

One of Britain's most best known orchestral trainers, he is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

The programme for the Wells concert will feature Sibelius' First World War masterpiece, Symphony No.5, Op.82 in E flat major, Saint-Saëns' third and final Violin Concerto No.3, Op.61 in B minor, which will be performed by a talented Wells violin soloist, Jeremy Hao and conclude with The Sorcerer's Apprentice, made famous by its use by Walt Disney in his much-loved animated anthology of music, Fantasia.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £8.
