Expert wine advice lost
We are sad to see that Jackson's, the independent off-licence in the centre of town is closing.
It has been unable to compete with the supermarkets' purchasing power, and particularly, their practice of temporary price-cutting.
So the variety and range of wines, beers, ciders, and spirits as well as the expert advice that Jackson's provides is lost.
Unlike the supermarkets, they haven't just stocked the same old stuff, they also found interesting, value for money selections that small producers can give.

We should be able to buy wine locally from people who know what they are selling. The loss of this shop diminishes choice for all of us.
Frome is lucky to have lots of independent retailers. But we can't take it for granted that they will just keep going, use them or lose them!
We urge everyone to shop more in our local shops, so that Frome keeps a thriving, richly diverse range of shops.

“yet another casualty of supermarkets strategy of cheap booze and undercutting local business
Less choice for consumers and a gap in the high street”
