An official diversion route is in place. From the western end of the closure, motorists are encouraged to travel along the A3088 and Bunford Lane to the junction with Preston Road.
From there drivers can travel along Preston Road to reach the A37, before turning right at the hospital roundabout onto the A30.
The existing 7.5-tonne weight limit on Preston Road has been temporarily suspended for the duration of the works.
Somerset County Council's highways department expects the road to be reopened to drivers from Thursday, September 5.
