Embroiderers get to show off a large body of work after workshop
Avalon Embroiderer's Guild
The Avalon Branch of the Embroiderer's Guild met on Saturday, January 26, at Ashcott Village Hall.
This month we had a member's workshop entitled Modern Stumpwork, with a topic of bodies.
We had three members leading their groups, with tables for construction of heads, bodies and hands.

The body shapes were made using needlelace to a shape of a T-shirt.
Starting off with a couched thread around the body shape and then infilling. This could then be lightly stuffed and attached to and embroidery.
The hands and feet were made by covering thin wire with thread and then grouping them together for the hands. For the faces, a little oval shape of fabric is gathered over an oval shape of felt or stuffing and a small piece of card.
The features were stitched on afterwards. This is very detailed stitching which involves a wide range of techniques.
At the end of the day there were quite a few little people taking shape.
If you have an interest in embroidery and would like to learn more of this technique or any other aspect and would like to join our group please contact Daphne on 01458 210576. All levels of ability are welcome.
