Exeter City loanee Elliott Chamberlain struck 12 minutes from time to give Bath City a 1-0 win at Farnborough last night.

In the first 45 minutes City demonstrated everything that was lacking in their dour 0-0 draw against Staines last Saturday. They pressed well in midfield, had the best of the chances, and kept a side quiet that are the league’s third highest goal scorers.

Their best chance came on 20 minutes. Noah Keats flicked the ball on to Chamberlain whose shot was turned round the post by loanee keeper Jordan Clement for the home side. From the corner Mark Preece rose above the defence only for his header to be cleared off the line by Olly Treacher with keeper beaten.

Sekani Simpson had a long range shot that sailed only narrowly wide.

Twice Farnborough’s Dan Bennett had shots saved by keeper Jason Mellor, one on 70 minutes at point blank range. Gethin Jones also got in on the action blocking a shot from Reece Connolly. Bennett then came back into it with a volley dipping off the cross bar.

Then with 12 minutes to go Bath turned the second half on its head.

A long ball played downfield was picked up by Chamberlain. Running on well his first shot was saved by Inman with his feet with Clement’s off his line. The Exeter loanee then made no mistake with his second sliding the ball home across the goal.

Weston-super-Mare struck first through Ross Stearn last night, but lost 3-1 at home to Eastleigh.
