AN elderly woman suffered serious injuries when she was hit by a car in Weston-super-Mare.

The pedestrian was taken to Frenchay Hospital with head and ankle injuries following the accident involving a Nissan Primera in Ebdon Road on Thursday.

The incident happened just before 6.45pm and South Western Ambulance Service sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance to the scene initially. The critical care team from great Western Air Ambulance also attended the incident by road and were involved in transferring the woman, who was believed to be in her 70s, to Frenchay for treatment.

Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision. Anyone who was in the area and saw the incident should contact police on 101 or can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
