Dynamos praise captain Crees
Martock United 2
Butleigh Dynamos 4
A run of 12 wins and a draw from their last 14 games has seen Butleigh finish in fourth place in the Yeovil and District League.
At the heart of this fine form has been the stalwart of the Butleigh defence, club captain and the only player to have completed 90 minutes every week – Richard Crees.
This season Crees has shown a great maturity that bellies his 19 years and while his aerial game has always been his strength, his ability to pass coolly out of the centre of the defence has seen an added dimension to the Butleigh back-line this season.
Therefore, it was fitting that the captain should open the scoring in the final league game of the season with a bullet header as he leapt clear of the Martock defence.
A 1-0 lead did not tell the whole story as Philips and Harris has ripped apart the Martock defence, while Lewis and Hefferman again destroyed the opposition full-backs at will.
Two shock goals from set pieces allowed Martock a brief glimmer of hope but Lawrie Henderson twice linked up well with Seviour to regain the lead for Butleigh, a close-range finish and a piledriver from the edge of the area making it 3-2.
Hefferman then finished off Martock when he cut inside from the left flank and unleashed a shot reminiscent of Thierry Henry.
Crees deserves all the plaudits for Butleigh's fine season, and will proudly lead out the Dynamos in the League Cup final on Saturday, kick-off 2pm at Somerton.
