Drunken man given four months to sort himself out
A CANNINGTON man arrested for using threatening words and behaviour while "fighting drunk" near a Bridgwater nightclub has been given four months to keep out of further trouble.
David Doherty, 28, of Oaktree Way, Cannington, was abusive when he was arrested near The Palace club at 3.45am on December 5 and tried to punch a police officer after being told to calm down, Taunton Crown Court was told.
The conviction put him in breach of two suspended sentences handed down in July and August last year for affray in Cannington and criminal damage at Taunton railway station, when he threw a bottle through a window, said Derek Perry, prosecuting.
Judge Stephen O'Malley said Doherty was otherwise making good progress under supervision and was in work with family responsibilities.
Adjourning the case to May, he told Doherty: "The ball is very much in your court and it's up to you to keep in touch with the probation service.
"Keep out of trouble and all will be well".
