Drug arrest was a wake-up call, defendant tells court
A Castle Cary man has been ordered to pay £260 after being found in possession of a class C drug.
Jake Ian Trussell, 22, of Station Road, was discovered by PCSOs in his parked car on an unclassified road in Bruton on May 14, said Sarah Rhodes, prosecuting, at South Somerset Magistrates' Court in Yeovil.
She said: "A small white wrap of paper was in the rear nearside footwell that was opened in front of him, and when asked what it was he told them it was ketamine. He was arrested.
"There was 0.38g of ketamine and the defendant confirmed it was for his own personal use."
Trussell, representing himself, told magistrates he was attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings in Glastonbury and seeking help.
He said: "In the last few months I've come to terms with the fact that I have a bit of a drug problem.
"I'm hoping to get a case worker and work with them to get past this. I was aiming to get a job as a pupil support worker and this has prevented me from doing that. It was a wake-up call."
Trussell was fined £160 and ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge. An order was also made for the destruction of the drugs.
