A MOTORIST had to be rescued by firefighters after they crashed their car off a motorway embankment.

Two fire crews from Weston-super-Mare and one from Clevedon were called to the M5 northbound between junction 21 for Weston and 20 for Clevedon at 7.45pm on Friday following the accident which involved just one vehicle.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the driver from the car. The motorway remained open despite the incident.
