The most important event of the week at the Isle of Wedmore Golf Club took place off the course, with the club holding its AGM.

Prior to the meeting, retiring captain Ian Robson handed over a cheque for £4,794.62 to the Southmead Transplantation Research Fund, the culmination of much hard fundraising over the previous 12 months.

Incoming captain Tom Bennett was then able to announce that next year two charities close to many members hearts, prostate cancer and Alzheimer's disease, would benefit from fundraising efforts at the club.

The new captain had already got this off to a promising start by shaving the flourishing moustache he had nurtured over the previous month before joining ladies' captain Deidre Wheadon and senior skipper Paul Burkhill at the annual drive-in of new captains.

Meanwhile, a nine-hole Bowmaker competition was won by Sean and Jim Grey alongside Steve Young, who amassed 39 points.

Earlier in the week, the ladies kicked off the festive mood with their Christmas Pudding Competition.

The best score of the day, and therefore looking forward to the biggest pudding, came from June Smith with 36 points. She was followed home in Bronze Division by Wendy Lucas with 33 and Nan Watt with 30.

Silver Division was won by Judy Cutter, who acquired most of her 32 points over the front nine. Aileen Robertson scored 30 for second, while Claire Biggs recorded 29.

The annual competition which sees Cheddar take on the Rest of the World was also held. For the second year running, Cheddar triumphed, this time 17.5-10.5.
