Double top for school stars
Two tennis players from Millfield Preparatory School currently occupy the top positions in the national under-12 rankings.
Finn Bass finished as runner-up at the recent Winter National Tour finals to earn the number two spot and join schoolmate and number one Luke Hammond at the top of the LTA standings.
Sarah Thomas, director of tennis at the Prep School, said: "This is a fantastic achievement for the boys. Luke and Finn both work extremely hard on their tennis and to see that translated into these tournament successes is hugely rewarding. They are very deserving of the top spots."
Bass beat top seed Hammond in the Winter Tour semi-final 6-4, 6-1 before losing a tight final to Roberta Preha 6-4, 7-5.
Hammond, the current LTA under-12 national champion, played in his first European tournament over Christmas, reaching the quarter-finals.
This earned him a wild card invite to the International Teen Tennis competition in Bolton, where he battled it out against older players before a narrow 7-5, 6-2 loss to the US under-14 number two.
His next challenge is the under-14 Winter National Tour finals in Roehampton in February.
