Doorstep conmen trick Radstock woman, 86, out of £250
An 86-year-old Radstock woman has been left badly shaken after conmen pretending to be from a water company stole £250 from her home.
At around 10.40am last Thursday, the woman answered the door to two men who claimed they were working on a nearby property and needed to come into her flat to turn off the water.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said the woman became suspicious and asked the men for identification but when she followed them into her front room she found one of the men going through her bureau desk. They then swiftly left her home making off with £250 in cash they had stolen.
Sergeant Geoff Cannon described distraction burglars as ‘heartless criminals’ who specifically targeted elderly and vulnerable people.

He added: “The message from us is if you are not sure, don’t open the door.”
He encouraged residents to challenge any unexpected visitors by asking them to show identification which should be phoned through and checked with the company they claim to be from before letting them into their home.
Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the two white males in the Springfield Buildings area and encouraged people to contact the force on the non-emergency number 101.
