Sponsored by Hopkins Developments, singers over the age of 18 will battle it out every Friday evening ahead of June's final – with a slice of more than £1,000 up for grabs.

The competition, in aid of Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, will get underway from Friday, March 22.

Landlord Peter Collins said: "This competition will provide a platform for someone to really shine.

"You often hear that top singers are first noticed in their local pubs. This could potentially change people's lives.

"Wincanton is a vibrant place. The next big thing could be here and is just waiting to be discovered.

"Shows like The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent have never been so popular, so that's why we decided to host a competition ourselves."

Singers will compete every Friday night with two acts qualifying each week as chosen by a team of judges.

Entry costs £5 and the winner of each heat will receive £10 – along with a place in the semi-finals.

Ten acts will then qualify for the grand final in June – with the top three performers winning a share of more than £1,000.

For an entry form, pick up a copy of this week's Wincanton, Bruton and Castle Cary edition of the Western Gazette.
